Lies and The Big Lie
Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) said on a podcast that some older lawmakers had invited him to participate in orgies while others had done "key bumps of cocaine" in front of him.
So now heās in trouble with Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and has admitted his statements were exaggerations or untrue.
Cuz, the GOP is apparently against these lies but not The Big Lie that many of their members perpetuate.
Trust the Science
Weāve seen how poor scientific literacy can negatively affect our ability to combat climate change and the pandemic. But letās also recognize the other bunk science claims to which we fall prey.
Multivitamins and supplements are loosely regulated. Many donāt contain what the labels say. And few people really need that daily megadose. Targeted vitamins for targeted use can be good, but most of those megadose multivitamins are just coming out in your urine.
GMOs are targeted and well known whatās in them. Thereās no significant body of evidence that they harm human health. But companies can put āNo GMOsā on their label (again, mostly unregulated) and get people to pay more for the same food theyāve always gotten.
There is no such thing as a super food.
Thereās more, of course. But in the end most of it is just fancy marketing.
If we say we Trust the Science, letās look at the places where many of us are not doing that.
Iām a sloppy mess
Sigh. Itās inevitable, especially if Iām wearing a nice shirt, that by the end of the day Iāll be wearing at least part of a meal. Iām just sloppy.
Catch that Word Balloon!
With a few off-the-cuff words at the end of an important speech, Biden might have reshaped the nature of this conflict with Russia, putting Putin in a position of saying the American government is actively working on regime change in his country.
Now, Joeās not wrong, but saying it publicly in a speech by the President of the United States carries a heavy weight. Which is why his team has tried hard to walk back those words.
Just like helium balloons, some word balloons can be a real hazard if you just let them go.
Weāll see how this shapes up.
Wow
That was a moment. Bad joke by Chris Rock but Will Smith has to be able to take it better and clearly not justified to hit the man.
Tax Deductions
Tax time, and folks are looking for all those possible deductions.
Look in the Mirror
Republicans are suddenly very focused on sexual predators, promoting and passing laws all over the country focused on fears of sexual predators and using it as an (unfounded) attack during the confirmation hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson. Of course, these fears are also cornerstone of the QAnon conspiracy theories.
Wondering when theyāll look in the mirror.
A Simple Political Statement
A simple political statement.
Something tells me I might get a lot of use out of this one.
Bad Legislation, Florida
Conservatives used to oppose legislation thatās too loosely defined or too broad. Laws like Floridaās āDonāt Say Gayā bill (yep, Iām using that name since thatās pretty clearly the intent) that leave open to interpretation the difference between āinstructionā and ādiscussion,ā leave whatās āage appropriateā open to debate, and seems to conflate gender identity with sex.
So whatās Florida going to do when they have a non-binary elementary school teacher? Deal with a buncha lawsuits.
Stupid, mean-spirited legislation designed to pretend that some people donāt exist.

Happy St. Patrickās Day
He probably spent all the gold at the gas pump. Happy St. Patrickās Day!
Batteries
With the time change, we changed the batteries in the smoke alarms. Which seems to be the only time we need 9V batteries. I think the smoke alarms keep the 9V batteries in business.
Gotham City
Watching āThe Batmanā and itās bleak, corrupt, and hopeless depiction of an American city, it hit me: this is how Fox News portrays American cities. No wonder people feel so hopeless. As a city dweller, let me tell you, itās not as bad as the media seems to portray.
Donāt tell me what to do?
When your actions and legislation donāt match up to your stated idealsā¦
Fuel Economy
I get it, no one likes high prices at the pump. But the average US fuel economy for new cars in 2020 was around 25 mpg. Thatās ridiculously low given the technology available at scale today. Oh, it also might help that whole climate change thing, too.
Sputum
Ā·tum
/ĖspyoĶodÉm/
noun
a mixture of saliva and mucus coughed up from the respiratory tract, typically as a result of infection or other disease and often examined microscopically to aid medical diagnosis.
Dating Standards
I mean, one *must* have standards, right??
Capitalism First!
Former Attorney General Bill Barr is just the latest to do this, waiting years to share information the US population should know, releasing it when it will benefit him and his book sales. Capitalism first!
Increase the Pressure
More and harsher economic sanctions. More international pressure. Hereās hoping this all blows up in your face, Vladimir.
